Telluride, Colo. -

What images do you conjure up when you think of the words “Fire and Ice?” Depending upon your senses, do you see the colors of red and blue, or do you envision the warmth of fire and chill of ice?

The Ah Haa School is asking local and regional artists to interpret this theme for its annual holiday show “Fire and Ice,” which opens Dec. 6. Ready to hang submissions are due Dec. 3.

“This is our fourth year, and the show is about offering an exhibition for people looking to give the gift of original holiday art,” said Jennifer Heflin-Thompson, Ah Haa’s marketing director.

“Not only is it wonderful to give and receive these gifts, but the show offers great exposure for artists. Shoppers have a place to buy something made by their friends and neighbors in Telluride,” Heflin-Thompson said. “We’re also quite excited to celebrate to celebrate the holidays in our new Depot space.”

In May 2007, the Ah Haa School moved into Telluride’s train depot on Townsend.
Depending on the quantity of work submitted, Ah Haa plans to accept about five pieces from each artist. If pieces are small items, possibly more; if they are larger sculptural pieces, five may be all the gallery can accommodate.

“We don’t really set a limit, but we’re looking for some great pieces that celebrate the beauty of winter,” Heflin-Thompson said.

Ah Haa is seeking a variety of work for the show and invites artists to comb their studios, tap their imaginations and dig out that portfolio — whatever it takes to get original gift items into the hands of holiday shoppers.

“It’s always great to have a variety of mediums represented. It makes for both an interesting show and provides our holiday shoppers with lots to choose from,” said Heflin-Thompson.

“Fire and Ice” will open Dec. 6 at the Ah Haa Depot located at 300 S. Townsend Ave. Those interested in submitting for the show should contact the Ah Haa School with a description of their work and drop off pieces at the school by Dec. 3.
